Attendance

Selma High Attendance Information

Parents/Guardians are asked to report their student's absence within 24 hours by calling (559) 898-6560.

*If your child has seen a doctor, please submit the doctor’s note to the SHS Attendance Office in person or via email at shsattendance@selmausd.org.

Attendance Matters

Daily school attendance is vital for all students.  Every period/day a student is absent is a missed opportunity for learning, completing assignments and working towards earning the necessary credits for graduation as well as preparing for college or a career after Selma High School.

Communication from SHS Regarding Attendance

If a student is marked absent, a dialer will go out to the parents notifying them of an absence. If you feel an error has been made, please wait to talk to your child before calling the school. After speaking with your child, if you think they were marked absent when they were present, then please contact the school at (559) 898-6560.

Excessive Absences

Excessive absences are defined as 10 or more days (or 60 periods) per year.  Excessive absences can lead to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB), a panel that works to identify and resolve persistent student attendance problems. Additional information regarding SARB can be found on the California Department of Education website at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/ai/sb/.

**More information regarding attendance may be found in the Student-Parent Handbook.
